Mark Stohlman for Cary Mayor

Cary citizens deserve a leader who will seek their input and put those ideas to work.

Meet Mark

A CPA for 30 years, a former Mayor of Morrisville, and a Downtown Cary resident.

I’m Mark Stohlman, and I want to restore your trust in Cary. The Town’s leadership has repeatedly failed its residents.

I served almost 10 years on the Morrisville Town Council and was its Mayor until 2017. My finance and accounting background and public service experience have prepared me to help tackle Cary’s issues from day one.

The issues

  1. Taxpayer abuse and mismanagement

Years of non-essential spending and fraud with taxpayer money, and no one held accountable. I will use 30+ years as a CPA to fix the Town's books.

  2. State Treasurer puts Cary on notice

In 2026 the State placed Cary on its Unit Assistance List, with enhanced oversight of the Town's budget and contracts.

  3. Housing affordability and property taxes

Cary's tax revenue has grown with every new home and business, yet property tax bills rose 60.3% in three years. That is unsustainable.

  4. Back to the basics of running a town

Public safety, planning, parks and public works come first. The money lost to waste could have paid for them, or for lower taxes.
